Earlier this week VISAR held an Emergency First Response (EFR) training at Base station. Abi Hillman, who is a Helm at VISAR and has been teaching EFR courses for ten years, was the instructor. All VISAR trainees have to be EFR trained before they can become a crew member so that they can be counted on to perform a basic level of first aid. Crew members also have to be re-certified every two years to stay current on their EFR training. The course is eight hours long and reviews topics such as rescue breathing, splinting and spinal injuries. Abi said the best part about teaching the course is “seeing trainees move through the pipeline and become ready to be a crew member for VISAR.”
