Sunday, July 11, 2010Special olympics Day at the BVI Watersports Centre
A day of fun to raise awareness and funds for our Athletes in the BVI

A wonderful day was had by all at the BVI Watersports Centres annual Fete and Fire Truck Pull. Though we returned to defend our title with confidence and determination, we walked away with the third prize trophy! Not too shabby....OK, there were only 3 teams but it is the participation that counts!
We at VISAR fully support Alison and Colin's amazing work and dedication to the special Olympics Athletes of the BVI. Their devotion to the athletes and commitment to the children within the BVI is a priceless asset to the local community. They are people after our own hearts here at VISAR, that truly believe learning to Swim at and early age and keeping the young busy with entertaining, wholesome and healthy activities like your sailing camps, can only help mould a more rounded and happy adult.
From the dunk tank to the lucky dip and the tombola, apart from the scorching sun , was like an English country fete!
The Dunk Tank was mainly enjoyed by my daughters it seems but as they were sporting the new VISAR Rash Guards, the louder they squealed, for once, the better!!
The brave few tested their stomach muscles oh the 'Hike' by sitting on a sledge looking contraption fro as long as their muscles could stand it. Many held on fro all their might and left like quivering jelly but a few stayed the distance. The first time was set at 5 minutes by a 9 year old girl. The a gentleman in his 30's decided to have a go and lasted an impressive 13 minutes. The first young lady not to be outdone held on for a staggering 20 minutes. Right up until a class mate sat down at the end of the day she remained unbeaten. The last score was over the 20 minutes and stayed as this years winner of the $100 prize was another 9 year old. Guess it was their year!
Good luck to all the athletes for 2010 & 2011 fro VISAR
