Tuesday, July 06, 2010Multiple Box Jellyfish Stings

Time of initial call: 0855, time of launch: 0907

Spirit arrived at Norman Island to find three persons on the beach suffering severe neuro response to Box Jellyfish stings. The responders found the 33, 28 & 30 year old casualties shaking with a fever.

Another local charter company boat brought stung a 28 year old female passenger to the Rescue boat for treatment.

A dive company at Cooper Island called in as they were also inundated with persons stung by the Box Jellyfish.

Once all the casualties were stabalised and with none considered serious enough for further treatment, Spirit set off for Cooper Island. Spirit checked all the reported persons in distress and once they had finished each assessment at Cooper Island, Spirit then headed back to the Bight to check on Fire & Rescue's reported casualty.

Fire and Rescue called the VISAR coordinator to report a 46 year old male aboard a catamaran in the Bight going into shock.

Spirit then made their way along each harbour back and forth until they were satisfied all the casualties were stable and not in need of hospitalization. Spirit departed the Bight at 1105 with no casualties on board.
