Cedar School Community Service Students visit VISAR Base
Students from Cedar International School, Kingston, Tortola, spent the last two Saturdays at VISAR Base Station. The students, as part of a School programme to encourage young people to grow up with a strong sense of community and willingness to assist others, came to do whatever was needed!
The first Saturday Students from Grade 6E tended the grounds around VISAR base. They worked both willingly and with great enthusiasm. The sun was hot, the job was hard but good spirits and friendship kept them chatting and laughing all morning.
The second Saturday, we welcomed grade 7 students. They removed old carpet, polished stainless Steele and Chrome on Spirit of Tortola. General tidying around the base was very much appreciated. The plan was to dredge the rescue boats exit from the boat house but due to an unusually high tide the students were unable to stand......... the water was too deep even for their 6ft plus teacher!
The last Saturday of Community Service month will see Grade 6V here at base. Who knows what fun we will have in store for them!
We are very grateful to the students who have participated and the teachers who organise and set such a great example to their students by pitching in with as much gusto!
